Head Quarter lift Women Cricket Title

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Feb 14: An all round performance from Genevie Pando guided Head Quarter to lift the 1st Kanaklata Baruah Inter Zonal State Women’s Cricket Championship 2021 title here today. In the final the side defeated Upper Assam by a big margin of 8 wickets.
Genevie first contributed with ball claiming three wickets and it was followed by an unbeaten half century.
Chasing 121 runs to victory in 50 overs Head Quarter didn’t face trouble and chased the target in 32.1 overs losing two wickets. Genevie played 98 balls to score 50 (no) with the help of five boundaries. She got good support from Rekha Rani Bora who contributed 41 runs (4X7).
Earlier elected to bat, Upper Assam managed to score 120-8 in their 50 overs. Genevie and her teammate Papori Gogoi picked up three wickets each. Nibedita Barua (44 no, 4X6) was the top scorer. The award function was attended by Kamakhya Saikia, joint secretary of ACA as the chief guest.
The other present in the function were Tapash Chakraborty and Runumi Barkotoky ,Members, Apex Council of ACA, Shuchi Kulshrestha, Head, Women Cricket Development, Rajasthan Royals, CEO of ACA Sujit Kakati, Dr. Ganesh Dutt Chugh, Technical Director, State Cricket Academy and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamakhya Saikia, Joint Secretary, Assam Cricket Association shed light on the important role the 1st Kanaklata Baruah Inter Zonal State Women’s Cricket Championship 2021 would play in the development of the Women’s Cricket in the state.
Addressing the audience, Ganesh Dutt Chugh, Technical Director, State Cricket Academy, Assam said that such tournaments would go a long way in inspiring the talented Women Cricketers of the state to leave a mark in the sport.
Individual award winners: Player of the Final – Genevie Pando (Head Quarter Zone), Best Batter – Priyanka Baruah (Upper Assam Zone), Best Bowler – Nirupama Boro (Head Quarter Zone) and Player of the Tournament – Gayatri Gurung (Upper Assam Zone).
