Sonowal inaugurates Birsa Munda Stadium at Chapar
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Sept 28: Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated Birsa Munda stadium at Chapar Tea Estate in Dhubri district. The stadium has been built as a part of the corporate social responsibility of Oil India Limited at an estimated cost of around Rs. 98 lakh.
Speaking at a programme organised on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the people belonging to Adivasi and tea tribe community are an integral part of the greater Assamese society. For the progress and prosperity of Assam, they have immense role. For the development of the people belonging tea tribe community, the present State government has been working with full commitment.
Considering their potentials in sports, Sonowal said that his government has been organising Chief Minister’s Cup Inter Tea Garden Football Tournament along with other sporting events to give sportspersons the opportunities to showcase their acumen. He also said that under Chief Minister’s Sammagra Grammya Unnayan Yojana, besides making 500 play grounds, Mangri Orang Archery Academy was set up at Sepon Tea estate.
The Chief Minister on the occasion also unveiled a statue of Birsa Munda at the stadium premises. Member of Parliament Pradan Baruah, MLAs Ashok Singhi, Aswani Ray Sarkar, chairman Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah, DC, SP of Dhubri and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
