AOA may start sports activities: Batra

Online Sports/ GUWAHATI, May 19: The sports activities may start in Assam but with full protective measures, the president of the Indian Olympic Association Narinder Dhruv Batra today gave this advice to the officials of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) and also the different State Sports Associations.
During a video conference the IOA president said the organizers that sports activities may be resumed but after taking all protective measures.
A top official of the AOA informed that Initial stage Batra advised to give priority to those disciplines like badminton, table tennis, weightlifting etc. which are less body contact games.
The official added: ‘Batra also advocated adopting a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in consultation with the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is the president of the Assam Olympic Association, before resuming sports activities.
It may be mentioned here that all types of sports activities had stopped across the country after lockdown was imposed to combat COVID-19 pandemic. It’s nearly two-moth that athletes were not able to go out and do their regular activities.
During today’s meeting The IOA president also assured all possible helps that will be require for players, coaches and support staffs of the state in the coming days.
Earlier the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar met with the officials of the different State Sports Associations through video conference and discussed on possible start of the sports activities in the State.
