Mayank bags runners up trophy
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Sept 23: Mayank Chakraborty of Assam brought laurel to the state bagging runners-up trophy in the 32nd National Under-9 chess championship which concluded in Ranchi today. The result also helped him to book a berth in the Indian team that will take part in the Asian U-10 and World U-10 Chess Championship in 2019.
Mayank, a student of city based South Point School, scored 9 points out of possible 11 and only lost to the champion A R Illamparthi of Tamil Nadu in the 9th round and thus secured the 2nd position in this 11 round Swiss league event. Another Guwahati boy Mrinmoy Rajkhowa, a student of Sudershan Public School, managed to secure the 17th position in the championship. On the other hand Barnil Kumar Das of Barpeta also scored 7.5 points and missed a berth in the top 20 prize list and finished in the 22nd position in the final merit list.
