Upsets at International Rating Chess

Online Staff/GUWAHATI, March 23: The 3rd Assam Downtown University International Open Rating Chess tournament, organised by Assam Chess Club, is going on full swing. All the seeded players had a smooth sailing in the first round with no major upsets.
However in the second round 4th Seeded Mrinal Kakati was shocked by youngster Pranit Malhotra while 7th seeded Nandan Buragohain had to pay the price of being complacent as he was held to a draw by unseeded Anik Kumar Lahon. Similarly Abhinav Dubey drew his game with higher seeded Ritesh Kumar Sharma. The 3rd round games were in progress till the filing of this report. Altogether 117 players from across the country are participating in this 9 rounds Swiss league tournament. The tournament carries a total prize fund of rupees two lakhs and is recognized by the World Chess federation (FIDE).
