Shiva named for best player of Assam award

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, May 6: United brothers Club named Indian star boxer Shiva Thapa as the best player of Assam award which the club will introduce from this year. A function in this regard would be held in the city on May 19 where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will hand over the awards to the selected sports persons.
President of the club Pranoy Bordoloi disclosing the news to a media conference today said, “We have already selected the name of the sports persons who will be awarded in the first year. Indian star boxer Shiva Thapa will receive the best player award for the year 2016. On the other hand archer Pramila Daimary will receive the most promising player award. Shiva will receive cash award of Rs one Lakh and Promila will be richer by Rs 50,000.”
The club also decided a Life Time achievement award and a best sports organizer award. Veteran sports journalists Premadhar Sarma will receive the life Time Achievement Award while President of the Assam Archery Association Jayanta Boro and Secretary of the Assam Amateur
Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita were jointly named for the best sports organizer award. A few sports persons will also be felicitated in the same function and they are Nafisa Sadiq (Rowing), Rakesh Banik (Para cyclist),Swapna Priya Baruah (Weightlifter), Supriya Gogoi (Kho Kho), Hasina Begum (Kabaddi) and Iron Men Rajnish Goswami.
