Good start for Sahil
Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, July 4: Promising chess player of Assam Shahil Dey made a good start in the Commonwealth Chess Championship registering victory in his first two games in New Delhi today. The boy, participated in the U-10 category, is now jointly leading the group with two points. On the other hand four state players Ashvin Sarma, Prangovinda Parasar Kashyap and Navoneel Choudhury are on one point after the completion of the first two rounds. In the U-12 Category, another rising star of Assam Dhrupad Kashyap lost his second round match on the top board against top seed S Rohith Krishna of Tamil Nadu. With this lose Dhrupad remains on one point. In the U-10 Girls category Aslesha Talukdar of Assam remains undefeated with 1.5 points at the end of the 2nd rounds.
Meanwhile in the open category, where altogether 117 players including 64 title players are participating, stiff competition was witnessed right from the first round. Fourth seed Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh was tactically outplayed by National Junior Champion Kumar Gaurav of Bihar and defeated in 63 moves. Similarly GM Sahaj Grover, GM Pravin Thipsay, IM Thejkumar were held to a draw by much lower seeded players.
