Vijay Hazare: Assam end with a defeat
Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, March 5: Assam lost to Vidharba by a huge margin of 104 runs in the last group league match of the Vijay Hazare Cricket tournament in New Delhi today. It was batting against that cost the match for Assam.
Chasing 274 runs to win Assam today bowled out 169 runs in 41.4 overs.
In the morning it was Vidarbha who won the toss and elected to bat. Rode on two good knocks from J Sharma and Ganesh Satish vidarbha scored 273/9 in their 50 overs. Sharma scored 80-ball 83 with the help of 9 boundaries and two sixes. Ganesh needed 93 balls on way to score 72 runs and his innings included 6 boundaries. The duo added 99 runs on the second wicket partnership.
Among the Assam bowlers Pritam Das once again came out with a nice performance and picked up three wickets giving away 52 runs. His new ball partner Arup Das claimed 2-55.
Assam made poor start in their run chase as opener Pallav Kumar Das (4) lost his wickets on the very first over. Other opener Rishav Das (57, 8X4) played a good knock but he didn’t get too much assistance from the opposite end. Pritam Debnath (23), Arun Karthick (18), Amit Verma (10), Syed Mohammed (0) and Sarupam Purkayastha (2)-entire middle order failed to produce big score. Kunal Saikia (38no) was the second highest scorer of the team. Abhishek Chourasia bagged 6-37.
