Regional Sports Meet of IOC begins Monday

Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Inter Regional Sports Meet of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will begin from Monday in Guwahati. The 5-day competition would be held in five different disciplines-Tables Tennis, Badminton, Carom, Chess and Bridge.
The sports coordinator of IOC D V Prasad, who is also the Chief Manager (Admin and Welfare-Sports), addressing a media gathering here today said, around 200 players from five teams will participate in the competition which will be concluded on November 30. The Table Tennis and Badminton Would be held at the RG Baruah sports complex and the venue of remaining three disciplines is Hotel Taj Vivanta.
Meanwhile State bird of Assam Deo-Hans (White Winged Wood Duck) has been chosen as the mascot of the competition. The Deputy General Manager of IOC (Corporate communication) Aloke Kumar Singh, who was also present at the media briefing, said,” Deo-Hans is now one of the most endangered birds in the world. Now only 800 Deo-Hans bird are survived and 450 of them are present in Assam and its adjoining areas. The mascot will generate awareness through the participants.”
